Round Shuna Weekend 2026: Small Fleet, Big Spirit

A huge thank you and well done to everyone who turned out to compete in this year's Round Shuna Weekend, despite the typically blustery conditions that the west coast is famous for.
On Saturday, five Sailability Scotland Challengers, one Flying Fifteen and one yacht tackled the feeder race from Ardfern, braving the turning tide in the Dorus Mòr. Meanwhile, six hardy crews from Oban Sailing Club raced south through the Cuan to Craobh, where we all enjoyed a pleasant evening in the newly refurbished Lord of the Isles.
Sunday dawned grey and damp, with forecasts predicting a strengthening south-easterly breeze and tide tables a strong southerly-running tide through the Cuan from around 1.00pm. With safety and enjoyment in mind, it was decided that the Oban Sailing Club boats would forgo the Round Shuna Pursuit Race and instead turn to starboard after the start, competing in a handicap race back to Oban via the Cuan.
This left a fleet of six boats to contest the Round Shuna race itself: three Challengers, one Flying Fifteen and two yachts. Despite the conditions, all completed the course in under 90 minutes before returning once again to the warmth and comfort of the Lord of the Isles for the prize-giving.
